The outside of the filter is obviously beautiful, well relative to everything else out there, but what about the inside what is so revolutionary about how the G6 filters the water? Well to start with the Fluval G6 uses a three stage filtration process, stage one is a pre filter, a fine strainer to stop the big bits clogging up the rest of the system. Next, stage two, is a chemical filter with a few options available to tackle specific chemical issues. And lastly, stage three, is a biological filter which is designed to control the spread and growth of bacteria within the aquarium.

What makes the Fluval G6 groundbreaking is the way in which the three stages are put together. fluval 3. Stages one and two, the pre filter and the chemical filter, are actually cartridges, and then stage three, the biological filter is made up of what Fluval call Nodes and these nodes sit in layers of media baskets.
